REPTILICUS (Guðmundur Ingi Markússon & Jóhann Eiriksson) has
stalked the fringes of the Icelandic musical landscape since 1988 and
counts among the pioneers of electronic, industrial, experimental and
noise music in Iceland. Taking its cue from the intricacies of
industrial electronica, the creativity of k****rock, and Dada,
Reptilicus have issued a number of releases on tape, vinyl, anti-vinyl
and CD where experiments, noise, percussion, 8mm and wind instruments
fuse in an electronic crucible.
SENKING is Köln's
Jens Massel, who also records as Fumble and as part of Poto &
Cabengo. As Senking, Massel makes darkly atmospheric music that is
deep, dubby, and intensely cinematic. His most recent double CD "Pong",
quickly sold out in 2010 on raster-noton and his new 12" "Tweek" will
also be on out on the highly regarded German imprint next week...and of
course the split single 'Initial Conditions' with Icelandic duo
Reptilicus, which will be released at this event! This will be his
first ever Toronto performance.
RÚNAR MAGNÚSSON is
an Icelandic musician, born in Akureyri. He has lived in Copenhagen
since 1996. Rúnar completed his master’s degree in Electronic Music
Composition at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus. For over 20 years,
Rúnar has been making music and sound design, releasing multiple solo
albums and creating music for theatre performances in Denmark. He is a
member of the groups Vindva Mei and SameSameButDifferent, a generative
music series. Recently, Rúnar has focused on surround sound, playing
multi channel concerts at various locations such as churches,
galleries, clubs, and theaters. Rúnar is also co-founder of the label
Hljóðaklettar (www.hljodaklettar.com).
ORPHX: Since the mid 1990s, Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey have been
creating a unique fusion of techno, industrial, and electro-acoustic
music. Using modular and analog synthesizers, software, feedback
systems, location recordings and homemade instruments, Oddie and Sealey
draw upon the darker tendencies of techno, electro, and dub, and
combine these elements with the experimental aesthetics of early
industrial music. Orphx has gained an international following as one of
the pioneering acts within the European "rhythmic noise" scene. They
have performed in numerous countries around the world, appearing
alongside artists such as Actress, Adam X, Alva Noto, Byetone, Ancient
Methods, Laurie Anderson, Monolake, Pan Sonic, Rúnar Magnússon and many
others. Oddie and Sealey have also collaborated on audio / visual
projects and exhibitions related to their musical work. Orphx have
released nine full length albums and numerous singles on vinyl, cd and
cassette. Their most recent work further develops a dark hybrid of
techno, dub and industrial that has garnered critical acclaim from many
of techno's leading DJs, including Dave Clarke, Marcell Dettman,
Laurent Garnier, Ben Klock, Silent Servant, Luke Slater, Surgeon and
Peter Van Hoesen. Their new album Radiotherapy has received rave
reviews and was recently described by Juno as one of the best techno
albums of 2011.
